Food I love this warm weather. I love being a homeowner. I love having a backyard - and I love being a gardener! Check it out, my seedlings are so happy! They will be even happier once they are in my belly. Or rather, once their food parts are in my belly. So far I have tomatoes, beans, sugar snap peas, snow peas, basil and chives. The rosemary and bell peppers haven't sprouted yet. The spinach, carrots, green onions, regular onions, cantaloupe, watermelon, pumpkins, summer squash, cilantro, oregano, and cucumber seeds haven't been planted yet. And I still need to purchase some baby strawberry plants as well as a couple of apple and pear trees and some raspberry, blackberry, blueberry and grape plants. Who knew you could grow grapes in Minnesota?! I am in way over my head, but it is going to be delicious. My backyard is extremely sunny (yay!). The dirt patch in the middle will be transformed into a firepit & embers grill soon. That shed will someday house a couple of hens, once I change some city ordinances - or maybe before then.. I can be a rogue suburban farmer!
Of course, I don't think any of it came about by accident. I mean, it does tend to get warm in the Spring here in Minnesota. :) That's why we put up with the harsh winters. Being a homeowner definitely did not come about by accident, I've been planning & saving for that as long as I can remember. And my seedlings, those were quite intentional. Of course, if they turn into fruitful plants? Well, I guess we have to see if I inherited my dad's green thumb. But fresh produce is so very tasty. As such, I'll do my best to make this go-around a success.
Side note: the firepit's almost finished! Laura & I had our first fire this weekend and then cooked sweet potatoes & onions over the embers. Ooooh, it was so good. It was like camping, but in our own backyard (and getting to go back inside afterwards to our warm, cushy bed).
The 17 Bottles Of project began with Urs and Sig and a bunch of other people in 1999. Unfortunately, the original, in a blue spiral notebook, has vanished. It was a fun project, though, so we're starting over. Hopefully this one will be a bit harder to misplace.
2011 UPDATE: Word on the streets is that the J.Mo. has located the notebook and has it in her possession. We'd love to see it some day...

I am completely overjoyed by it all.
